Editorial Guidelines

AnimalSake is written for curious kids aged 8 to 12, and for the parents and teachers who read along with them. These guidelines explain the standards every article on the site is held to, so you always know what to expect from us.

We get the facts right

Every article is built on real, checkable information. We confirm the key facts, such as where an animal lives, what it eats, how big it grows, and whether it is at risk, against trusted reference sources before we publish. Conservation status follows the IUCN Red List. You can read more about where our information comes from on our sourcing page.

We write for young readers

Our goal is to be clear, accurate, and easy to read. We explain tricky words the first time we use them, add short glossaries where they help, and keep sentences simple without watering down the science. If a topic has a scary or upsetting side, we handle it gently and honestly rather than leaving it out.

We are kind to animals

We believe learning about animals is the first step to caring about them. Our articles treat wildlife with respect, remind readers to admire wild animals from a safe distance, and never encourage harming or disturbing any creature.

Our content is independent

What we publish is decided by these editorial standards, not by advertisers. Any advertising on the site is kept separate from our articles and never changes the facts we report.

We fix mistakes

We review and update our articles over time as new information becomes available, and we correct errors as soon as we learn about them. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us through our contact page so we can check it and put it right.

Keep exploring, keep learning 🐾

…and most of all, be kind to all animals.
